Several people were injured during a Fourth of July celebration in Utah when stray fireworks went into the crowd, local media outlets reported.
The incident happened at the Stadium of Fire show at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, about 44 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
Video posted on X showed what appeared to be two stray fireworks flying into the stadium seats during a fireworks display.
Multiple people were taken to the hospital with injuries, KSTU of Salt Lake City reported.
According to KSL-TV of Salt Lake City, one person was struck in the face and seriously injured. The station reported that the fireworks show was briefly stopped while the injured people were transported to the hospital, but resumed around 9 p.m. Thursday.
America’s Freedom Festival, the event organizer, released a statement on X saying that all pyrotechnics were “thoroughly checked” before the show and checked again after the incident.
“Safety is of the utmost importance to us,” the festival posted. “Our thoughts are with those who were impacted, and we are following up with them to make sure they are okay.”
