India triumphed over Australia by 86 runs in the second semi-final of the 2024 World Championship of Legends (WCL), held at the County Ground in Northampton on Friday.
The second semi-final, saw Australia’s Legends team setting a target of 168 runs with the loss of 7 wickets.
Tim Paine led the charge for Australia, remaining unbeaten with 40 runs. Contributions came from Nathan Coulter-Nile (30), Callum Ferguson (23), Dan Christian (18), Aaron Finch (16), Ben Cutting (11), Ben Dunk (10), while Shaun Marsh managed only 2, and Peter Siddle was not out at 5.
India’s bowlers were on point with Pawan Negi and Dhawal Kulkarni taking 2 wickets each, while Rahul Shukla, Harbhajan Singh, and Irfan Pathan claimed a wicket each.
Batting first, India, invited by Australia Champions, posted an imposing total of 254 runs for 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Robin Uthappa scored 65 runs, followed by captain Yuvraj Singh’s 59 and Irfan Pathan’s quick-fire 50. Other contributions included Ambati Rayudu (14), Suresh Raina (5), and Gurkeerat Singh (0). Yusuf Pathan and Pawan Negi remained unbeaten with 51 and 2 runs respectively.
Peter Siddle was the standout bowler for Australia, taking 4 wickets, while Nathan Coulter-Nile and Xavier Doherty picked up 1 wicket each.
The highly anticipated final of the Legends League will be contested between Pakistan and India on July 13.
