Renowned sports analyst Mirza Iqbal Baig has shared intriguing insights into the careers of Pakistani cricketers Umar Akmal and Ahmad Shehzad.
During a recent appearance on a private TV channel, Baig was shown various players’ pictures and asked for his comments.
When presented with a photo of former team manager Wahab Riaz, Baig advised against being more loyal than necessary, stating, “One should not be more loyal than the king himself.”
Baig then discussed Umar Akmal, highlighting the talent of all three Akmal brothers—Kamran, Umar, and Adnan.
He recalled a notable incident from the 2017 Champions Trophy when Umar Akmal was sent home by coach Mickey Arthur for being deemed unfit, which led to a prolonged cold war between them and ultimately Akmal’s exclusion from the team.
Turning to Ahmad Shehzad, Baig remarked on Shehzad’s perseverance despite the challenges he faced.
He recalled a period when Shehzad was a serious contender for the captaincy of the national team, with the legendary Younis Khan endorsing him as a potential leader.
However, Shehzad’s career did not unfold as hoped.
Baig attributed this to Shehzad’s outspoken nature, which he believed adversely impacted his career longevity, as Shehzad often expressed unfiltered opinions.
