Sonam Kapoor embraced motherhood in 2022. The actress and her husband, Anand Ahuja, welcomed their son, Vayu, and since then, the actress has been committed to fulfilling her responsibilities with dedication. The actress frequently spoke about her postpartum experience. Weight gain during pregnancy and losing the extra pounds after giving birth is a big problem for most women. In her recent interview, Sonam shared how it affected her.
In a conversation with a magazine, Sonam stated, “I was 36 when I got pregnant, and I had to take a lot of progesterone. In the first three months of my pregnancy, I put on 15 kilos. And after that, it was just not ending, I went back to my heaviest ever.” The actress added that it was still acceptable when you were carrying the child. But once the baby is born, one expects to return to their previous physique. But this did not happen, and it took her a year and a half to drop the extra weight.
Sonam further spoke of how body issues have been a challenge, especially because of the industry she belongs to. She expressed, “In this profession, you’re constantly scrutinising yourself, forget other people scrutinising you. And I’ve grown up in front of everyone from the age of 17 or 18. And I’ve also seen myself age, my body has changed, my face has changed, everything has changed.” She stated that she has always faced “ body struggle.”
This is not the first time Sonam Kapoor discussed her weight loss journey after pregnancy. Some months ago, the actress uploaded a carousel of photographs of herself on Instagram and wrote about how she balances motherhood and self-care. Sonam also mentioned that she did not use rigorous diets or exercise to achieve quick results. She wrote, “It’s taken me 16 months to feel like myself again. Slowly, steadily, without any crash diets or crazy workouts, just consistent self-care and baby care. I’m not there yet but I’m almost there. I’m still very very grateful for my body and how incredible it has been. Being a woman is a wondrous thing.”
Sonam Kapoor has been mostly away from the screen following the birth of her child. She now divides her time between India and the UK.
