Sawan Puja 2024: Know Rituals To Install Shivling In…
The Shivling should be established at a holy pilgrimage site.
The Shivling should be ideally placed with its yoni base facing north.
The month of Sawan starts from July 22. Can shivling be established during this period? How can a shivling be worshipped during Sawan? Let us know about all these from Tirupati-based astrologer, Dr Krishna Kumar Bhargava. It is believed that in the month of Sawan, Mahadev, the God of Gods, is being worshipped. His favourite things are offered while worshipping in order to please him. Another ritual called Jalabhishek of shivling is done. By doing Jalabhishek, Lord Shiva is pleased and he fulfils the wishes of the devotees.
According to the astrologer, Dr. Krishna Kumar Bhargava, the method of establishing and worshipping Shivling is explained in detail in the Shiv Purana. In the Shiv Purana, it is mentioned that the Shivling should be established at a holy pilgrimage site, on the bank of a river or at a place where Lord Shiva can be worshipped daily. Worshipping Shivling during auspicious time brings auspicious results.
It is also believed that establishing small shivling is good for movable installation, while big shivling is good for immovable installation. The Shivling should be ideally placed with its yoni base facing north, and the devotee should face east while performing all the rituals.
A shivling should be made of clay or iron, its back should also be made from the same material. This is considered as the speciality of the immovable shivling.
For a movable shivling, both the Linga and its base should be made up of the same material. The length of the movable Linga should be equal to 1 finger of the person doing the installation, not less than that.
In case of the immovable shivling, the length of the Linga should be equal to 12 fingers of the person doing the installation. Less results would be obtained, if it is less than that. The length can also be more than 12 fingers.
Fill a pit with gold and nine types of gems. Then meditate on Lord shiva by chanting Vedic mantras. Then in that pit while chanting Om, install a Shivling. The idol of Lord Shiva should also be installed there while the chanting of the Panchashkar Mantra.
The shivling should be worshipped every day in this manner. The shivling is the sacred symbol of Lord Shiva.
For worshipping Shiva, according to Shiv Purana, there are 16 treatments which are – Avahana, Asana, Padya, Arghya, Achamana, Snana or Abhisheka, Vastra, Yajnopavita, Gandha, Pushpa, Dhupa, Dipa, Naivedya, Tambula, Achamana, Mantra Pushpa. Those who will follow these 16 methods while worshipping Lord Shiva will get the best results. Circumambulating and saluting the shivling also leads to the attainment of Shiva’s blessings.
