The Third Sawan Somwar is the third Monday in the Hindu month of Sawan, known for its significance in worshipping Lord Shiva. Sawan, the fifth month in the Hindu lunar calendar, is dedicated to religious observances, particularly on Mondays, and involves fasting and rituals. This year, the third Sawan Monday falls on August 5, with the tithi of Shukla Pratipada lasting until 6:30 pm, after which the Dwitiya Tithi will commence.

Observing a fast on this auspicious day is believed to fulfil personal desires, including finding a suitable partner and resolving marital issues. Devotees also believe that fasting and worshipping Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati bring good fortune and success, as well as relief from ailments and suffering. According to Hindu traditions, following the rituals on this day can lead to significant spiritual and personal benefits.

Puri’s astrologer, Dr. Ganesh Mishra from the Central Sanskrit University, provides detailed guidance on the auspicious timings for various rituals. For the Third Sawan Monday, Vyatipat Yoga will occur from 10:08 am on August 4 to 10:38 am on August 5. Ashlesha Nakshatra will begin at 1:26 pm on August 4 and end at 3:21 pm on August 5. Brahma Muhurta, considered ideal for performing rituals, is from 4:20 am to 5:03 am, while Abhijit Muhurta is from 12:00 pm to 12:54 pm.

Amrit Muhurta, an exceptionally favourable time for worship, will be from 5:45 am to 7:25 am. Char-Samanya times, considered auspicious for performing significant activities, are from 2:07 pm to 3:48 pm. Labh-Unnati time is from 3:48 pm to 5:28 pm, and Amrit-best time is from 5:28 pm to 7:09 pm.

Jalabhishek can be performed during Brahma Muhurta, though it can be done at other times as well. Rudrabhishek is also highly auspicious during Brahma Muhurta. For Kalsarp Dosh pujas, favourable times are early morning or during specific muhurtas, with the most auspicious periods being from 4:30 am to 6:00 am, 7:00 am to 10:00 am, and around 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.
