In a bizarre incident of love and jealousy gone too far, the news is that a Japanese man made 100 blank calls to his wife daily for roughly a month. Yes, you read that right! And on being caught, his reason will shock you.
A 31-year-old Japanese woman was fed up with getting almost 100 blank calls every day between July to August this year, reported Kobe Shimbun, a Japanese media house.She said, as per the report, whenever she answered the unknown calls, the caller would just stay quiet. When she told her husband about this, he was indifferent towards her problem which made her suspicious about him.
She then started noticing a pattern in the blank calls– she would never receive them when she was with her husband, when he was sleeping, or when she was playing games on his mobile phone which made her more doubtful about him. And so, she further tested him to know if it was him or someone else. She decided to go shopping with her husband and noticed him and his moves. The woman observed that her husband didn’t use his phone the whole day, and on that particular day she also didn’t receive any blank calls.
This confirmed her suspicion and she went to the police to tell them about this strange incident. Listening to her problem, the police then checked all the call records of her husband and they found that it was him who was making the numerous blank calls to his wife daily for over a month! To remain uncaught, he also made these calls in private mode. On further probing, the police didn’t find any major issues between the couple. And so, when the husband was confronted he revealed that he was jealous of his wife and also said that he “loved her so much”. As per reports, the man was unhappy with his wife as he once noticed her talking to a man on the phone and he didn’t know what they were talking about. This made him stoop this low.
The man was arrested for this strange behaviour and for harassing his wife. Meanwhile, the punishment he was given for this has not been revealed.
For the unversed, in Japan making such blank or missed calls is against the law as they can cause a lot of psychological distress to the receiver. If caught doing this illegal activity, it can cause one to be imprisoned for a year or the person can be fined for up to 1 million yen (approximately INR 6 lakhs) along with prohibition as per the Japanese laws.
