Controversial Bollywood actress and politician Kangana Ranaut has responded defiantly to ‘death threats’ that she says she received after the release of the trailer for her upcoming film Emergency.

The film, set to hit theatres on 6 September, features Ranaut portraying former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

According to Indian media, Kangana has been facing death threats ever since the trailer’s release.

Additionally, various groups have organised protests, calling for a boycott of the film.

In a recent interview, Kangana addressed these threats, asserting that her opponents cannot intimidate her.

“You cannot scare me; I will not let India’s voice be silenced, nor will I let these threats impact the film’s release,” Kangana declared.

Kangana further emphasised that the truth cannot be suppressed.

She warned that if she backs down now, these forces will continue to intimidate other artists, potentially stifling creativity and freedom of expression in the future.

Kangana also criticised efforts to rewrite history through intimidation, vowing that artists would not allow a repeat of past injustices.

The release of Emergency has been delayed due to controversies, with the Indian censor board withholding the film’s certification amid ongoing protests.
