NEW DELHI: The govt will not take any suo motu legal opinion on the financial crisis for Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel after dismissal of a curative petition by the Supreme Court on the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) matter. Any view will be initiated only after a plea by the telcos, sources have said.
“There is no need for a legal view as yet, as the decision of a curative petition broadly means closure of a case,” the source said.This comes even as Vodafone Idea has announced a conference call with investors and analysts on September 23 to provide “an update on recent developments”.
Asked whether some other relief measures can be considered to bail out the companies, the sources said, “This can happen once we receive a request to this effect from the companies. So far, there is no such correspondence that we have received.”

Sensex closes above 83,000 for 1st time – Times…

MUMBAI: Benchmark sensex rose by nearly 91 points to close at a fresh lifetime high, while Nifty settled above the 25,400 level for the first time in a range-bound trade on Tuesday amid firm global trends ahead of the much-awaited US Fed’s decision on interest rates.
Extending its record-setting spree for the second day, the 30-share BSE sensex climbed 91 points to settle at a lifetime high of 83,080.The key index settled above the 83,000 level for the first time. During the day, it rose by 164 points to 83,152. The NSE Nifty gained 35 points to settle above 25,400 level for the first time at 25,419 – its record closing high.
Among 30 sensex firms, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Titan, Larsen & Toubro, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance, HUL and RIL were the biggest gainers. agencies

Sensex Closes 147 Pts Up 81,053, Nifty Above 24,800

Indian stock markets again closed higher on Thursday due to positive sentiment in the markets. At closing, Sensex was up 147 points, or 0.18 per cent, at 81,053 and Nifty was up 41 points or 0.17 per cent at 24,811.

The market’s positive sentiment was bolstered by optimistic global cues, particularly from the US markets, where the S&P 500 extended its winning streak, reflecting investor confidence amid expectations of potential interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.

During the day, Sensex traded in the range of 80,954 to 81,236 and Nifty traded in the range of 24,784 to 24,867. In the Sensex pack, Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Titan, Asian Paints, UltraTech Cement, JSW Steel, Maruti Suzuki and SBI were the top gainers. Tata Motors, M&M, Wipro, NTPC, TCS, Power Grid, Sun Pharma, Axis Bank, and Nestle are the top losers.

Thursday’s market rally was led by Nifty Bank which settled up 300 points or 0.59 per cent at 50,985. Among the sectoral indices, PSU Bank, fin service, FMCG, metal, realty and Private bank were the major gainers. Pharma, IT and energy were the major laggards.

An upward trend was also seen in small and medium stocks in the trading session. The Nifty midcap 100 index was up 400 points or 0.69 per cent at 58,844 and the Nifty smallcap 100 index was at 19,099, up 32 points or 0.17 per cent. According to market experts, the domestic market witnessed modest gains owing to positive global sentiments.

“Particularly, the recent signs of weakness in the US non-farm payroll data have strengthened the case for potential interest rate cuts in September. However, in the broader market, investors are being cautious, opting for a selective approach, awaiting more clarity from central bank leaders in Japan and the US,” they added.

The market capitalisation of the top-10 companies currently stands at a little above $1 trillion or Rs 90.54 lakh crore.

Despite the markets witnessing volatility amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, the combined market value (market capitalization or mcap) of BSE-listed companies on May 21 hit the historic $5-trillion mark for the first time ever. Moreover, the top-10 listed companies also achieved a combined market cap of over $1 trillion.

This comes despite the BSE benchmark index remaining nearly 1.7 per cent below its all-time high.

According to the latest data available on the BSE’s website on May 21, the all-India market capitalisation, including 5,391 listed companies, stood at $5 trillion or Rs 414.7 lakh crore. This is about $633 billion higher than that at the start of the year.

According to the latest BSE data, the market capitalisation of the top-10 companies currently stands at a little above $1 trillion or Rs 90.54 lakh crore.

Company-wise, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) topped the companies in market capitalisation with Rs 19.42 lakh crore, followed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) with Rs 13.82 lakh crore, HFCD Bank (Rs 11.08 lakh crore), ICICI Bank (Rs 7.88 lakh crore), and Bharti Airtel (Rs 7.62 lakh crore).

State Bank of India (SBI) comes sixth with Rs 7.41 lakh crore, followed by LIC (Rs 6.46 lakh crore), Infosys (Rs 5.95 lakh crore), ITC (Rs 5.43 lakh crore), and Hindustan Unilever (Rs 5.42 lakh crore).

According to Moneycontrol, BSE’s total market capitalisation had hit $4 trillion in November 2023, and has now soared past $5 trillion in just six months. BSE-listed firms reached the market cap of $1 trillion back in May 2007, doubling in over a decade to $2 trillion in July 2017, and then reaching the $3 trillion mark in May 2021.

Currently, only four stock markets world over are in the $5-trillion-plus club, namely, USA, China, Japan and Hong Kong. The US leads with a market cap of almost $55.65 trillion, followed by China ($9.4 trillion), Japan ($6.42 trillion), and Hong Kong ($5.47 trillion).

Indian Stock Market Today

The BSE Sensex on Tuesday declined by nearly 53 points in a volatile trade amid weak trends from Asian and European markets and fresh foreign fund outflows. The 30-share Sensex declined 52.63 points or 0.07 per cent to settle at 73,953.31 as 18 of its constituents declined while 12 ended with gains. The index gyrated around 426 between a high of 74,189.19 and a low of 73,762.37 in day trade.

The broader Nifty of NSE, however, closed higher by 27.05 points or 0.12 per cent to 22,529.05, driven by gains in metal shares. As many as 27 Nifty shares declined while 23 closed with gains.

Among the Sensex components, Nestle, Maruti, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, Hindustan Unilever, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank were the major laggards. Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Power Grid, Tech Mahindra and State Bank of India were among the gainers.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 92.95 crore on Saturday, according to exchange data. Global oil benchmark Brent crude declined 0.55 per cent to USD 83.25 a barrel.

Bharti Airtel Q4 net profit plunges 31% to Rs…

NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel‘s Q4 net profit declined by 31% to Rs 2,072 crore, against Rs 3,005.6 crore in the same period a year ago.
Additionally, its revenue from operations rose 4.4% to Rs 37,599.1 crore during the quarter from Rs 36,009 crore a year earlier.
“Consolidated performance was impacted primarily by the devaluation of the Nigerian Naira. We added 7.8 million smartphone customers and delivered an industry leading ARPU of Rs 209,” Bharti Airtel Managing Director Gopal Vittal said.
Further, in the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2024, Bharti Airtel witnessed a 10.5% decline in profit, amounting to Rs 7,467 crore compared to Rs 8,346 crore in FY23.Despite this, the company experienced a 7.7% increase in annual revenue from operations, reaching Rs 1,49,982.4 crore, up from Rs 1,39,144.8 crore in the previous fiscal year.
The Airtel board has proposed a final dividend of Rs 8 per fully paid-up equity share with a face value of Rs 5 each, along with Rs 2 per partly paid-up equity share of the same face value.
